Cellulant Bootcamp - Onboarding new employees from all over Africa

Client: Cellulant

Category: Team Building

Date: June 2019

Team Building Packages: Go Team, Decipher Seqeuence

Snapshot

Cellulant regularly hold onboarding programs for their new African reqruits. This was our fourth similar engagement with the client, so they were looking for something new and different from what we had done with them before.

Our Assisgnment - Tie in the onboarding lesson points in a fun and memorable way

We were given an afternoon to work with, and tasked with creating an experience that summarizes key onboarding points the participants had interacted with during their week long Bootcamp. The client also wanted us to create an activity that forced the new reqruits to take a deep dive and connect to the culture at Cellulant, and get to know one another.

The Approach

Go Team – a product available only within the Catalyst Global Network, was our best bet. This is a fun and interactive product hosted on an app that allows us to mix training conversations exploration. Having the participants use the Go Team app would also allow us to focus on other key themes such as self leadership and awareness. We wanted the team to take ownership of their roles and use them to move Cellulant towards their business mission and strategy.

Because the event was being hosted at a business hotel that didn’t have lot’s of green space, we decided to start out at the hotel and then use the Go Team application to direct the participants to the Arboretum park which was less than 2kms away.

Event Day

We started off at the Emory Hotel in Kilileshwa, and begun with the Deceipher Sequence – a team building product that works as a great energizer. The Decipher Sequence encourages fast creative thinking and teamwork, through a variety of fun and group based puzzle based sequences.

Once the participants were energized and rearing to go, we briefed them on Go Team and begun the journey to the Arboretum Park.

To meet the clients objectives we packed Go Team with lots of relevant lesson points:

  • A map to the Arboretum and challenges along the way such as quizes, get to know one another questions and photo of various sites
  • At the site where Java and Shell were demolished we had a text and video based activity that required them to share team related habits that needed to die for them to thrive at their new place of work
  • Photo, text and video challenges on Cellulant’s values
  • Creative problem solving challenges

And finally for security from The Emory hotel to The Arboretum we engaged the Kenya Police to escort us.
